Reference
The training of Radio Engineering specialists at the Institute
began as far back as 1961. The rapid development of Radio Electronics
in Armenia at the beginning of 1970s, required the creation
of all the necessary conditions for training highly qualified
specialists in the field of Radio Engineering and Radio Electronics.
In
1972 the Faculty of Radio Electronics was established, which
trained specialists in the fields of Radio Engineering, Design
and Production of Radio Equipment, Multichannel Telecommunication,
Semi-conductors and Dielectrics, Semiconductor Equipment, Design
and Production of Electronic Computers. In 1979 three specialties
were separated from the Faculty: Radio Engineering, Design
and Production of Radio Equipment, Multichannel Telecommunication,
which were transformed into the Faculty of Radio Engineering,
and in 1991 – into the Department of Radio Engineering and
Communication Systems.
In
the period of 1981-2000 G. Ghazaryan, Ph. D., Assoc. Prof.,
was the Dean of the Faculty who made an invaluable contribution
to the establishment and organization of the Department.
In
1972, in the town of Dilidgan on the base of - the Factory
of Communication Means and Radio Electronic Industry “Impulse”,
a campuse of the Faculty in the field of Design and Production
of Radio Equipment wasfounded. The campus has become the constituent
part of the Yerevan Department since 1989.
Since
1996 the Department admitted applicants to the speciality
Economics and Management of Telecommunication Agencies and
in 2001 on the basis of this specialty a new Chair was founded.
The
Department has been carrying out a five-year education in
the field of Radio Engineering since the academic year 2000/2001,
as a result of which graduates are awarded the qualification
of Diplomated Engineer.
At
present, more than 600 students study at the Department. The
graduates of the Department work in different spheres of Industry
and different research institutes. Many of them successfully
carry out research work, have defended Doctorate and Ph.D.
dissertations and continue their scientific-pedogogical activity
at the University.

4 Professors, 20 Associate Professors, 11 Senior Lecturers
and 4 Assistant Lecturers.
At
present the Department is one of the main units of the University
and has all the perspectives for the future development and
expansion.
