At present it is difficult to overestimate the role of a specialist in Applied
Mathematics, a man with an up to the level training enough to make up a mathematical
model of a real problem and carry on the investigation of the latter to a certain
solution applying up-to-date computer equipment.
The Chair of Specialized Mathematical Education trains specialists like that.
Having a powerful professorial staff (2 Academicians of NAS of RA, 5Dr. Sci.,
33 Ph.D.) the Department provides for the multilateral mathematical education
on the specialty "Applied Mathematics". The graduates acquire deep knowledge of
both classical and modern parts of mathematics. The serious training in Mathematics
allows the students to master the Computer Science and Programming easily and
the richly equipped Chair gives them an opportunity to solve complicated problems
on their own at all stages of training. The acquired knowledge and skills help
the students solve problems arising in different spheres of science and engineering.
Certain steps in this direction are taken in the training process while writing
courses and diploma projects as well as during the production practice.
In the nearest future cooperating with the leading specialists of Academy Institutes
of Mathematics and Informatics, the Chair plans to carry out a number of projects
allowing to teach the graduates the most modern methods of investigations: equations
of mathematical physics, mathematical principles of signal processing, the spline
theory (one-dimensional and multidimensional), the wavelet theory, parallel calculations.
As theoretical elaborations are supposed to be carried out up to the final results-
applied program packages for the solution of concrete practical problems.
Another prospective direction in the Chair activities is the wide introduction
of the Computer Mathematics system (Mathematica, MatLab, MathCad, Maple) in the
training process which gives an opportunity to teach the students not only to
use the existing programs but also to make up their own ones adapted to the solution
of personal problems.
To realize the programs mentioned above the Faculty of the Chair and the specialists
of the Academy Institutes as well as the Graduate and Post-graduate students are
going to be involved in instruction.
The Department is ready to cooperate with the leading universities and scientific
centers in the following sphere of Mathematics.
1. The Function Theory (Integral presentation of analytical functions, the theory
of free interpolation and the basicity of rational functions)
2. Differential equations of partial derivatives and their application in electrodynamics
and gas dynamics.
3. Theory of boundary problems for elliptic equations and systems
4. Automation of chip design
5. Riemannian geometry, differential geometry of submanifolds, surface design
