The Chair was founded in 1938 when the Chair of "Descriptive Geometry and Drawing" of YPI was established. It was headed by: distinguished scientist of Armenian SSR M.B. Varuntsyan (from 1938 to 1956), Assoc. Prof. S.S. Hairapetyan (from 1956 to 1969), Ph. D., Assoc. Prof. H. A. Babayan (from 1969 to 1991). On the basis of this Chair a new Chair called "Engineering Graphics" was founded in 1997 headed by Ph. D., Assoc. Prof. A. A. Matossyan (from 1977 to 1982) and Ph. D., Assoc. Prof. F. S. Khachatryan (from 1982 to 1992).

In 1992 these two Chairs were combined under the name of “Engineering Graphics”. Since then Dr. Sci., Prof. K.H. Soghomonyan has been the Head of the Chair.
Currently the Faculty of the Chair carries out optimization of the educational programs in compliance with the up-to date requirements. A special attention is paid to computer graphics.
