The Chair of EICCEIE was founded in1972 in the structure of the Electrical Engineering Faculty of Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. The Chair trains: Bachelors of Engineering on the specialties 18.03 "Electroinsulation, Cable and Capacitor Engineering"; 18.06 "Illumination Engineering and Light Sources" (a 4-year course); 3.08 Masters of Engineering on the specialty "Electrical Engineering, Electro-mechanics, Electro-technology" (a 2-year course); Research Engineer on the specialty 05.09.02 "Electrical Engineering Materials and Articles".

1. The Main Disciplines

Material Science (Electro-radio Materials).   
The discipline studies the physical properties and phenomena of different classes of electrotechnical materials (dielectrics, magnetic materials, conductors, semiconductors) used in electrical engineering and radio electronics. The spheres of application and the properties of the main types of electroradio-materials are considered.

Principles of Electoinsulation, Cable and Capacitor Engineering.
The discipline studies the electroinsulation constructions (electric capacitors, cables and insulations of electric machines); principles of their design, calculation and spheres of application.

Physics of Dielectrics
The course studies the physical phenomena taking place in dielectric and electric insulation materials under the influence of the electric field; parameters quantitatively defining the electrical properties of materials and components, dependence of those parameters on different factors.

Principles of Cable Engineering and Production Practice.

The course studies the theory of the power electric cable, electrical and heat calculations, principles of the theory and technology of twisting the cable conductors, isolation, drying lead and aluminium sheaths, as well as the production practice of impregnation and superposition of cables and wires with rubber and plastic isolation. Power and Communication Cables

The discipline studies the electric and heat processes in power cables, modern cable lines, testing of power cables. The theory of communication cables is stated, the principles of their design and electrical calculation, the constructive and electrical characteristics of modern symmetric coaxal and optical cables are considered.

Principles of Capacitor Construction and Production Practice   The discipline studies the electrophysical processes going on in power electric capacitors. Capacitors are considered in the direct and alternating circuits of the field. Electric strength of capacitors. Technology of capacitor production.

Principles of Illumination Engineering

The course studies the theory of radiation, methods of quantitative estimation of radiation in power and efficient systems of quantity and unit; integral and vector characteristics for calculating the illumination field of different sources of radiation; common transformation laws of optical radiation at interaction with receivers; the main conformities of physiological optics.

Illumination Devices.
The course studies the illumination and radiation devices, classes of lighting devices (luminaries, floodlights, projectors) the degree of concentration of radiant flux by them; the role of lighting devices in national economy, purposes of luminaries, floodlights and projectors, the role of devices in economic efficiency of lighting installations.
